Born in Ecuador and raised in Passaic, NJ, Byron G. Bustos currently resides in the suburbs of Frederick, MD and is a husband to his lovely wife of 16 years, and a father of two teenagers and a three-year-old mini-goldendoodle.
At the age of 19, Byron was inducted into Lambda Theta Phi, Latin Fraternity Inc. at Rowan University, NJ in Spring 1997. Byron’s major draw to the fraternity was his passion for community involvement and activism. During his college career, Byron was heavily involved in various organizations and become the president of the student government and helped his fraternity win the National Chapter of the Year. After graduating from Rowan, Byron continued his master studies at Seton Hall University, becoming a graduate assistant and during the fraternity’s 25th anniversary, in December 2000, Byron became the first Lambda Theta Phi Foundation’s scholarship recipient.
Soon after, Byron was hired as an evaluator for the Office of Inspector General, United States Postal Service in Arlington, VA. Eager to get back to NJ, Byron was transferred to the Hoboken, NJ office where he worked for the next 14 years. During this time, Byron was heavily involved with the fraternity, the local church, and the hometown politics in Passaic, NJ.
Byron served on the fraternal sector board becoming a sector vice-president in 2003 and leading it to become the National Sector of the Year. Byron envisioned an NJ alumni chapter and in June 2004, Lambda Theta Phi granted Lambda Gamma the official charter and in 2005, Lambda Gamma won the National Alumni Chapter of the Year. In 2006, Byron was elected National President of Lambda Theta Phi. In 2008, Byron chartered the Lambda Theta Phi Board of Trustees, established the National Trust Fund, and become the fraternity’s executive director in 2009.
Subsequently, Byron was also elected to the Passaic Board of Education where he championed educational excellence, accountability, and structure. As president of the board of education, Byron led policy and advocacy efforts to bring in a whole new school administration and to restructure the school system of an annual budget of $330 million.
In 2016, Byron returned to the Washinton D.C. area as he promoted to an audit manager and in 2021 was hired by the Office of Inspector General, General Services Administration as the new associate deputy assistant inspector general for auditing, real property and finance team. Byron has participated, lead, and managed over 125 audits covering various topics such as real estate, law enforcement, sales, marketing, transportation, labor management, and financial field. Byron also worked for the congressional and public relations team.
Byron continues to be a member of the local church, serves as the elected president of his HOA with 15,000 residents, and an owner of a home services business called 360 Painting.
