Biography

José A. Morel is a native of the Dominican Republic and was raised in Paterson, NJ. He resides in Bergen County, NJ with his lovely wife of 21 years, two amazing young adult children, and an amusing three-year-old Maltese Shih Tzu. 

At the age of 18, José embarked on a life journey with Lambda Theta Phi, Latin Fraternity Inc., at the ETA Chapter, New Jersey Institute of Technology, in Spring 1997. 

Throughout his college years, he not only earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from NJIT in 2001 but also held pivotal roles in various organizations. As the President of the Eta Chapter, University Senate Representative, Greek Letter Council Vice President, and Resident Assistant for NJIT Residence Life, José showcased exceptional leadership skills. His contributions earned him induction into prestigious societies like the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society and the Order of Omega Leadership Society.

Post-graduation, José remained dedicated to Lambda, assuming diverse roles at both the Sector and National levels, including serving as Sector President and Director of Alumni Affairs. A founding member of the Lambda Gamma Alumni Chapter, he continued to contribute to the fraternity’s growth and success.

Furthering his education, José obtained a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University in the City of New York in 2018, with a concentration on Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management.

José currently serves as the Executive Director of Project Controls for Columbia University’s Manhattanville Development Group, amassing over two decades of professional experience in real estate development and construction management. José’s expertise encompasses project controls, risk management, project management, compliance, strategy, and client relations.

At Columbia University, he plays a key role in overseeing the development of the nation’s first university campus designated as a LEED Platinum Neighborhood Development. This 17-acre campus, located in the heart of New York City, reflects José’s dedication to creating pedestrian-friendly, environmentally sustainable spaces that welcome the community at large.

His impressive project portfolio includes the J.L. Green Science Center, Phase 1 Below Grade, Lenfest Center for the Arts, The Forum, Central Energy Plant, Columbia Business School, and the Residential Tower. Prior to his current role, José contributed significantly to projects with the Turner Construction Company, leaving his mark on endeavors like NYU-Langone Medical Center, BASF HQ, Princeton University Chemistry Lab, American Dream Mall, and UMDNJ Cancer Center.

Additionally, José serves as a volunteer member of his town’s Zoning Board of Adjustment and is an active member of the Bergenfield Dominoes Club. 

José A. Morel is a testament to leadership, education, and community engagement, weaving a narrative of success and dedication throughout his personal and professional journey.
