Daniel Sedares

Biography

Daniel is an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher and Adjunct English Professor at New Jersey City University (NJCU) where he teaches various writing and public speaking courses.  His experience as an educator has been primarily in urban settings where he worked with diverse populations, initially in the New York City public school system before returning to New Jersey, where he was born and raised. 

Prior to becoming an educator, Daniel worked as a media spokesperson and media events coordinator for NJ Transit where he wrote press releases, board reports, trade industry articles, public notices, company newsletters, and  speeches for elected officials and board members in addition to representing the agency in broadcast and print interviews. After leaving NJ Transit, Daniel was recruited to be the Director of Communications & Fund Development for the Urban League of Hudson County (ULHC) where he developed the agency’s protocol for media inquiries, built their website, represented the agency in broadcast interviews, produced their cable series, and wrote grants.  Daniel also produced the ULHC’s marketing materials, coordinated fundraising events and initiatives, and acted as liaison between the agency and other organizations.

 

Daniel earned his masters in education from Brooklyn College (CUNY) and his undergraduate degree in communications at Seton Hall University where he was one of the founders of the Epsilon Chapter of Lambda Theta Phi, Latin Fraternity, Inc..  Since earning his undergraduate degree, Daniel has been on the National Board of the Fraternity as Vice President for 4 terms, National Community Affairs Advisor (2), and the first National Director of Alumni Affairs (2) during which he spearheaded the establishment of an alumni dues structure and created the first alumni affairs page on the fraternity website.  Daniel has also coordinated and MC’d several fraternity national awards banquets, conducted workshops at national conventions/conferences, represented the fraternity at North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and National Organization of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) conferences, and at a press conference in Washington, DC regarding the FCC approving the merger of several Spanish language media outlets. During his first tenure as National Vice President, Daniel also illustrated the fraternity shield having revised the original shield in consultation with heraldry expert and Fraternal Father Dr. Cayetano Soccaras. 

Daniel is one of the founders of the fraternity’s New York alumni chapter, and since returning to New Jersey he has become an active member of the north Jersey alumni chapter, and member of the Northeast Regional Board (NER) of the fraternity. Daniel currently lives in Jersey City, New Jersey where he is an active member of his community volunteering with local churches and other organizations to address issues such as mass incarceration and youth engagement.  He is also the father of two college age children, a visual artist, avid fitness enthusiast and writer.
